Invitation on behalf of the Wivenhoe Town Regatta to take part in this year’s gig races.

Race 1: The inaugural John Stewart Memorial Race

1230 – Mass start from Bateman’s Tower, Brightlingsea to finish at the Old Hard on the Wivenhoe waterfront. Approx 4.5 mile / 3.94 nm / 7.3 km course.

Harker’s Yard Gigs, mixed crew only (2 ladies & 2 men). No passengers. Trophy for the winning crew.

£5 per rower (excluding cox) to race.

On arrival, mooring at the Wivenhoe Sailing Club and Public Boating Pontoon. Beer and burger vouchers for crews. Various activities on the water and the quayside when you arrive and throughout the day, so bring along friends and family.

Race 2: Harkers Yard Supersprint Knockouts

1530 – Gigs race in pairs over a 250m straight course against the tide on a knockout basis.

Mixed crew only, random draw, winners proceed to next round. Small and Grand Final to decide prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd.

£5 a boat to enter

Racing to end by 1600, for gigs to return to Brightlingsea etc for recovery
