Hi all,
It is really important that as many of you as possible attend this session.
It is everyone’s responsibility for safety on board not just the coxswain.
Would you know what to do in an emergency situation if the coxswain was taken ill?
This session is open to everyone, there are a couple of people who have volunteered to get in the water- but there is absolutely no expectation that anyone has to go in.
I would like everyone to have a go at pulling a man overboard in to the boat. But again, you can watch from the RIB if you do not feel confident.
The aim of the day is to give everyone the confidence to know the emergency procedures. If you wish to do this as a spectator then that’s no problem at all.
The day will consist of 1hr 30mins ashore going through
- cold water shock
- hypothermia
- prevention of an emergency
- emergency procedures including first aid
- lifejacket operation
- Man over board procedures
- Radio procedures
We will then go on to the pontoon and cover
- live demonstration of lifejacket operation
- Man overboard recovery practice
We will then go out past the moorings and practice the Man overboard drills in company with the Police boats who will also be practicing coming along side the Rowing vessels and how to transfer casualties from one boat to another.
I suspect we will finish about 3pm.
Cheers from Spain :-)
