Dear all

With huge apologies from Norwich Rowing Club for the late notice this year, please find attached the poster for the Carrow Cup, together with 2 entry forms – one for fine boats and one for traditional boats. Please do use these as they will provide us with the information we need to allocate crews to events, and allocate handicaps to traditional boats. The deadline for entries is 6pm Sunday 3rd December.

This year we have responded to feedback and reduced the entry fee to £8 per seat. In return, we ask that all payments are made in advance, by Wednesday 6th December. Late payments will be subject to a £10 fee per boat. Payments in advance will significantly reduce administrative stress for the organisers. Thank you for your help with this.

As always, the NRC clubhouse will be open for hot and cold snacks, including bacon / egg butties, home-made cakes and festive offerings. Mulled wine and local ale will be on sale too. Please do join us after you’ve raced. The presentations will be held as soon as possible after the last division. This includes the presentation of the Carrow Cup, one of the oldest rowing trophies in the country, for the fastest coxed four. Festively-attired crews and boats will also be suitably awarded.

Elf and Safety

The course is narrow with several bridges, tight corners and moored boats to navigate. You are strongly recommended to practice steering the course before race day if you can. Inexperienced fine-boat crews of any age should choose the short course of division 1.

As someone who is very keen on fancy dress (perhaps a little too keen), it pains me to be a party pooper, but this is an important message to keep you safe. Please ensure your festive attire is safe to row in, and that both you and your boat’s adornments are firmly secured and not likely to cause accidents. Think about whether you would be able to swim in your outfit if you capsized. In particular, we advise against fleecy onesies for juniors or inexperienced crews. The race committee reserves the right to ask competitors to remove unsafe items before boating.

I look forward to receiving your entries.

Best wishes
Katherine
