If you would like to meet there please aim to be there for the briefing at 11.15am (launching from 11.30am.)

The first race is not until 12.45- so if there is anyone who can’t get there early you are welcome to make your own way there as long as you arrive 30mins before the start of your race.
we will be taking the boats in and our Sunday so no need for a Monday crew now.

The Fambridge Yacht Haven River Festival Gig Race is to be held on Sunday 28th May and is open to all rowing boats suitable for the course. Free camping will be available on the nights before and after the race and campers are welcome to use all our marina facilities including, showers, laundry and club house for meals. The marina site has plenty of room for parking of all cars and trailers. The marina slipway IS TIDAL and launching of boats is recommended at 11:30 am on Sunday 28th May, for those who wish to arrive and launch on Saturday 27rd free marina berths will be available for overnight mooring.
This race is part of our first River Festival which will include a number of other attractions and activities for all the family ashore and on the water, the race course will be along the picturesque river crouch and spectators will be able to follow the whole race along the sea wall. A bar and BBQ will be available on site all day and there will be evening entertainment at the famous Ferry Boat Inn.
Crews will be able to sign on for the race at the Fambridge Yacht Haven Marina Office from 8am. A crew briefing will be held outside the marina office at 10:00 am. Please ensure that one representative from each crew is present at this briefing.
Please note that the CHA Harbourmaster Capt Harrison MSM has specified that all gigs must carry anchors, vhf and personal floatation devises
Classes:
The racing will be divided into four categories, with their own separate start times. Sliding seat/ fixed seat, all women gig crew, mixed ( 50/50) gig crew and all men gig crew.
Prizes will be awarded for fastest on handicap in each of the following classes: Sliding seat/fixed seat, Harkers Yard gigs, Spirit class gigs , Other type gigs,
The starting sequence will be:
5 minutes before the start, one sound signal, chequered flag raised and announced over VHF ch 37.
1 minute before the start, one sound signal and announced over VHF ch 37
10 second countdown announced over VHF ch 37
At the start chequered flag dropped and announced over VHF ch 37
The start line will be on a transit line between the “ West ” race mark and a Committee Boat anchored directly opposite.
All boats shall start East down river. All boats must be behind the start line at the 1 minute signal
If a boat is over the line at the start of the race, they will notified by two sound signals given by the race officer, signalling that one or more boats had crossed the start line before the start. Any boat deemed to be over the line and not returning back to the start line will be disqualified. A general recall will be sounded by three sound signals, announced over VHF channel 37 and a raising of the chequered flag on the committee boat
The Course
The course will be from the start line down through the Fambridge Moorings to turn at a special mark “Short” leaving it to port and returning up river through the moorings to racing mark “West” leaving it to port and returning to the Fambridge moorings to be finished at the North Fambridge Yacht Club racing line. Competitors are asked to clear the line and return to the pontoon and change crews if necessary.
Finish Line
All boats will finish travelling East at the North Fambridge Yacht Club line within the Fambridge moorings. The Finish line will be an imaginary line between the white triangle mark in front of the NFYC and the triangle on the South bank.
Racing Code of Practice
1. All boats must carry a working hand-held portable vhf radio set on channel 37( m).
2. All crew members must be 16 and over. All coxswains to be over 18 years of age.
3. All coxswains must be experienced and observe good seamanship at all times.
4. All race entries will be given a numbered entry sheet to display whilst racing
5. Any boat not on the start line at its allotted start time could be disqualified at the discretion of the race officer.
6. At the starts any boat failing to obey the race officers orders will be given a final warning and disqualification will take place should this be ignored.
7. Any boat touching a safety or committee boat will be liable to disqualification.
8. All boats must steer a proper course. Any zigzagging to block another boat will result in
disqualification.
9. All boats must round the racing mark of leaving it to port, boats nearest the buoys must be given
water.
10. In the event of a collision all crews should make every attempt to disengage. Spinning a boat will
result in disqualification and taking off the yoke may result in disqualification.
11. All boats must finish at the NFYC line as described above.
12. In the event of a serious safety incident the race may be stopped by the intervention of a safety
boat.
13. All decisions made by race officer will be final.

Risk Management and control measures agreed with the CHA Harbourmaster
All rowers will be expected to wear a life jacket
All coxswains MUST wear a life jacket
A representative from each crew will be asked to sign in listing the names of the crew and be
allocated a display number for each gig and contact method/callsign.
Boats may be checked before entering the water for safety by the race officer
There will be vhf radio contact from the committee boat to all support boats on channel 37.
One support boat will lead the rowers and another support boat will follow up the rowers.
Participating members of the race will be expected to stop their involvement in the race and go to
the aid of any boat in distress.
In the event of an incident requiring the race being stopped a red flag will be displayed from the
support boats and a headcount of boats carried out by the committee boat.
There will be no racing under conditions of strong winds of force 7 (Beaufort Scale) or above ,
significant swell or poor visibility.
In the event of sudden illness or an serious injury an ambulance will be dispatched to North
Fambridge visitors pontoon.
The details of the race will be published on the CHA website beforehand to warn other river users of the impact.
