Harkers Yard Winter Series - Round 1 Manningtree

2 Oct 2023 by Sarah Mason

1st of October and the 1st race of the season – it was a good day for 1sts!

Our 1st first though is a big thank you to Manningtree and Stour Sailing Club for hosting a fantastic event. Not only did they have a slick launch/recovery team, a fantastic race box/safety boat team and a wonderful food/tea/cakes team, whoever was put in charge of the weather really did pull out all the stops – thanks to everyone involved.

20 boats raced in each race which is the biggest field we’ve had so far in the Harker’s Yard Series. No one really knows what’s going to happen at any of the races, especially the first of the season, but I think it’s safe to say BOCCRC came flying out the traps.
Results on the day were:
Ladies Wren – 2nd
Ladies Willow -18th
Men’s Wren – 1st
Men’s Willow – 2nd
Mixed Wren – 1st
Mixed Willow – 9th
The day had it all. New faces and old faces making up new teams, tricky starts and flying starts plus some edge of your seat finishes, all served up with a big helping of grit and determination from both teams. A fantastic club day out to round off a fun filled and action packed BOCCRC weekend.

The next race is time trials at Rowhedge on Sunday 15th October where the running order will be Men’s, Mixed, Womens. A strong start crews – Onwards!!
